Binding firm and fairly clean, spine extremities fraying slightly. VG.

First English edition. xvii, 383pp, illustrated with many plates and text illustrations. Ex-library copy: pastedown damaged from removed label, front free endpaper removed, half-title stamped 'withdrawn', and margins of some plates have a small circular stamp. Contents otherwise clean and in very good order. Large quarto, in the original navy cloth, with elaborate decoration to the boards - in gilt on the front, in blind on the back. The spine is titled in gilt, even the library number is written in gilt: pale patch towards base of spine. Clean and firm, gilt a little rubbed but bright, slight ridge to spine, ends puckered. Very Good.

Limited Edition reprint: #209/1200. 256pp, 255pp, 255pp: illustrated in monochrome. Each book bears the bookplate of Michael Wright, former editor of Country Life, which published the original edition. Contents otherwise very fresh, clean and unmarked, appearing unread. Large quarto, in the original bindings of pale moss-green cloth, lettered in gilt, very fresh, clean and bright. The first and last vols have slight compression to the spine ends: all corners sharp. The pictorial dustjackets are bright and fresh, but have small knocks at spine ends: that of the first vol also has a 5mm closed tear at head of lower joint, and a slight knock to the top edge. Beautiful set. Near Fine in VG+ dust-jacket.

Large Folio: Vol I: 61pp text + 110 plates of Architectural Drawings, followed by 271 photographs (unpaginated); the corresponding figures for Vols II & III are: 52, 121, 277; 59, 107, 173. The Life (large quarto): xxii, 602pp. Massive set, beautifully produced. Limited Edition reprint (1500 copies) of the Country Life edition of 1950, this being No.10 of 20 review copies. Contents in each case very fresh, clean and unmarked. Some pastedowns have creasing next to hinge where board pulled, now re-firmed. Dark green cloth titled in gilt, clean, bright, and sharp. Pictorial dustjackets slightly sunned, with knocks to edges, and the top edge of the lower panel of the Vol I jacket is damaged, with a five-inch chip, some creasing and a closed tear, but the plan illustration is not affected. The Life is bound in a lighter cloth, generally clean and bright, but with a few faint marks, and the base of the spine is blunted. Very Good+ in VG dust-jacket.

In protected unclipped dustjacket, very bright and clean, with tiny scuffs at upper corners. Very Near Fine in ditto jacket. Beautiful copy of the first printing of a key work.
