Report to the Board of Trade on Banks, Banking, and Life Assurance; from Bentley's Registry of Bank and Life Assurance Accounts; Established 1845. [The Fourth Report].

London: Joseph Bentley, n.d. [1867]. First edition. Hardcover. 160pp, of which the last 6 are advertisements. A vigorous indictment of the banking practises of the 1860s and earlier, and of the failures of the Board of Trade to regulate these and to inform the public. Contents fresh and clean but for the title and the first few pages, which have a little foxing and small knocks to the upper corners, and there is a mark to the bottom edge of the text block, of which only a slither encroaches onto the bottom edges of the pages. In a new binding of red Victorian cloth, ruled in blind and spine ruled and titled in gilt. Whether these reports were suppressed or have been absorbed, there seem to be very few copies extant. Very nice copy. Near Fine. Item #18673050
