The Lightning Conductor Comes Back. [Association copy]

London: Chapman and Hall, 1933. First edition. Hardcover. viii, 289pp, with map endpapers. Ebullient fictional motor travelogue through the Southern Counties of England. The half title bears the ownership signature of the writer Clarence Winchester, who appears as a character in the book, the protagonists' guide to the Sussex part of the tour: below his signature he has listed the page numbers of his appearances. There is also his small printed ownership label to the border of the map on the front pastedown. Contents clean and in very good order - except for that Sussex section, whose 20-odd pages he has enthusiastically dog-eared, and variously marked in ink. He has also marked his astonishment at the statement in the Foreword that the original Lightning Conductor title, published nearly 30 years earlier, sold over a million copies. In the original binding of black cloth, titled and decorated in pink and green: firm, slightly soiled, and a pale line marks a small fault in the cloth; corners sharp, spine rather faded, ends puckered, with a scuff at the foot of the upper joint. A nice association copy of an uncommon title. VG-. Item #19338061
