London: T. Allman, 1852. Presumed first edition. Hardcover. xi, [i], 436pp; with a frontis portrait, an engraved title page, and six plates. A whole page is dedicated to listing the Duke's titles. Text and plates are almost all bright and clean, a few pages and the title have a little soiling, and the frontis and engraved title are heavily foxed. With the original yellow endpapers: most of the front free endpaper has been trimmed back. The verso of the portrait bears a modern ownership name. Published in the year of Wellington's death and his ensuing State Funeral, presumably to meet popular demand. Small format, 13x8cms, in blind-stamped blue cloth, decorated to the spine and upper board with gilt emblems and a martial figure. Firm, bright, edges rubbed, slightly knocked. Good copy of a popular memento of a great Englishman. Good. Item #18521030
