English Captain. [Penguin #374]

Harmondsworth: Penguin Books, 1941. First Penguin edition. Paperback. 158pp. Contents in good order, with some tanning to edges. The flimsy wartime cerise 'Travel & Adventure' series front paper cover is faded, stained, creased, and worn at the edges, with a corner missing, and puckered due to not having been laid quite flat when some kind of tape was used to re-affix it to the spine: the translucent papery tape material, or a vestige of its adhesive, is still present as a tawny band down the spine edge. The spine is mostly present and is quite firm. The back cover is missing, exposing the bent staple ends, the final page showing listings of 'The Latest Specials' and 'Recent Pelicans'. A vivid account of the author's experiences in the Spanish civil war, as a journalist, and then as a member of the International Brigade. A very scarce title in this edition. ['The Penguin Story' gives February 1942 as date of actual publication.]. Poor. Item #19419040
