The Outsider.

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1946. First English edition. Hardcover. [iv], 3-104. Pages and endpapers clean and unmarked. Closed top edge slightly toned and foxed. 19x12.5cms, in the original binding of grey-green cloth, spine titled in gilt. Clean, corners good, slightly sunned to the top edge and where the lower panel of the wrapper is torn. In the protected unclipped dust jacket. The pictorial front panel by Edward Bawden is clean and practically complete: the top edge is slightly knocked, it has scuffs to the upper corners, there are a couple of faint ridges or score lines about an inch from the foot, and there are two closed 4mm tears to the bottom edge. The spine is toned, with a small chip to the head and a small scuff to the foot, and with a bright (untoned) section towards its foot, which was formerly protected by an ownership label. The lower panel is soiled and has a narrow strip torn away 2.5cms downward from the top edge; and there is toning to the upper and lower edges of the flaps. There have been no repairs. A 20th Century classic: a very nice copy, with a largely fresh jacket. Near Fine / very good. Item #19461030
