Francis Bacon: Oeuvres Recentes. Galerie Claude Bernard - Paris 1977. [Signed by Bacon]

Paris: Galerie Claude Bernard, 1977. Softcover. Softcover exhibition catalogue, 29x21.5cms (wider than A4). With Leiris' 9-page essay 'Le Grand Jeu de Francis Bacon', and superbly illustrated with plates of all but the last 4 works listed, and including 3 large foldouts of triptychs, in addition to the one reproduced on the covers. Title page signed by Bacon in blue marker 'Francis Bacon 19/1/77/-'. There is also a curious gift inscription in another hand to the first blank leaf, just three days later, dated 'Jan. 22, 1977', and signed 'T.B.'. The note implies some connection with Bacon's world, or at least with someone represented in his paintings. Internally about fine, with a slight waviness to a small patch at the top edge of some pages adjacent to the spine. The triptych illustrated on the cover is the one sold to Roman Abramovich for $86m in 2008, the second highest price ever paid for a Bacon. The front cover has a 1cm brown (scorch?) mark to the upper right centre of the front panel, and a partial cup ring stain to the lower right centre: other signs of use are minimal. A magnificent souvenir from the time when Bacon was at the height of his powers. Very Good+. Item #19770090

Price: £2,250.00
