London: B4 Publishing: Philip Dobree & Adrian Self:, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991. Limited Edition of 150 copies. Hardcover. Unpaginated: each volume 42.3x30cms, in the original printed paper-covered boards, containing tipped-in tissue-guarded signed prints in various media, each by a different artist, plus typographically singular pieces by different writers. The Editors write in Vol I: ‘We will build up a portfolio of writing and art of 110 different contributors from around the world over the three years.' The set itself forms a notable art work of its era: there is very little figuration, much formalism and minimalism. Contents clean and unmarked, and all the prints are in immaculate condition. Two of the pages in Vol 2 have repairs to blank areas, where prints were once carelessly removed before being carefully replaced, and one page in Vol 3 has slight surface damage to a plain area. The front endpaper to Vol 5 is slightly creased. The bindings are firm and bright. The lower boards of Vols 2, 4, and 6 are criss-crossed with faint pressure marks. The foot of the spine of Vol 2 has been knocked, and this has compressed the corner of some pages within. The spine ends of Vols 2 and 4 have been repaired, and some other extremities show slight scuffs. A very nice set, and the realisation of an aesthetic ambition. Showing slight wear. Very Good+.
