Vol I: [iv] (engd title, title), ii (advertisement), xlviii (memoir, Portrait, prefaces, corrigenda), 380; [ii], xviii, Mammalia (pl-63), Aves (pl-99); Vol II: [ii] (engd title), xxxvi (title, memoirs, 2 portraits, index), 412; [ii], xxii, Reptilia (pl-40), Pisces (pl-80); Vol III: [ii] (engd title), xxxvi (title, Latreille's preface, index), 472; [ii], xxiv, Mollusca (pl-44), Annelides (pl-10), Crustacea (pl-42), Arachnides (pl-29); Vol 4: [iv], (engd title, title), ii (memoir of Latreille, portrait), xliv (memoirs, 2 portraits, index), 544 (including a Catalogue of Authors and Abbreviations, followed by a general index to the work); [ii], xxxii, Insecta (pl-115), Zoophytes (pl-23). ** ['(pl-)' records the number printed on the final plate in each section: there are perhaps half as many again with interposed numberings - ie: total nearly 800 plates, with tissue guards, nearly all being hand-coloured.] ** Whereas the printed title pages are dated 1834 or 1836, the plates section of each volume is preceded by an engraved title page dated 1837, followed by a table of contents to the plates. Contents clean and bright, with minor spotting to title pages, almost none elsewhere. One page edge damaged, some plate edges pricked, and a depression mark to the back of one portrait. A very nice set with new cream endpapers in the contemporary binding of bottle-green pebble cloth, rebacked (except Vol IV), with the original labelled spines laid down. Large 8vo, 24x14.5cms, and taking up nearly a foot of shelf space. Very Good+.
