Poor Richard's Farmers' & Commercial Pocket Book for 1845.
32pp, illustrated with a guarded scenic frontis 'The Village' and numerous woodcuts, with much rustic fun in the lively headpieces for each month. With something of the character of an almanack, packed with informative text and advice: various tables, sundry articles, a section listing hundreds of Fairs and Markets in England and Wales, and another with Agricultural and Domestic Recipes. Also advertisements for various nostrums, including Poor Richard's Stomach Pills, capitalising on the name of Franklin's Poor Richard publications of the 18th Century. Discovered with only soiled blank leaves forming front and back: these have been bound in, and bear an early ownership name. Some staining to frontis: pages good. 16x10cms, all edges gilt. Conserved in a new binding of marbled boards with brown cloth spine and paper label. Extremely uncommon.
