Peeping Pansy.
Marie Queen of Rumania, illustrated by Mabel Lucie Attwell:

Peeping Pansy.

London: Hodder and Stoughton, n.d. [1919]. First edition. [vi], 312pp, with illustrations in the text - some full-page, plus the 8 tipped-in colour plates on thin card mounts, with captioned guards. Text pages very clean. All the plates are in excellent uncreased condition. The mounts have a little very faint foxing, and that facing page 112 has two distinct spots. Final guard missing. The text illustrations at p63 & p125 are slightly marked from the removal of crayon. The half-title has some staining to the edges. There is a mark from a former rusty pin to the top corner of both the title page and the list of illustrations (ppiii-vi). The title page carries a 1921 gift inscription, and an explanatory note about the Romanian royal house. Slight wear to the corners of the prelims. Faint soiling to final page, and the upper corners of the last three leaves have been made good. New endpapers. Large quarto, recased using the original red cloth over new boards: the red is very mottled: the book had suffered severe damage externally, and there are only faint vestiges of the original gilt decoration and titling to front and spine. It is now freshly presented firm and fit for service. Very Good.
