The Outsider.
Albert Camus: translated by Stuart Gilbert, and with an introduction by Cyril Connolly:

The Outsider.

London: Hamish Hamilton, 1946. First English edition. [iv], 3-104. Small original bookseller's label to foot of front pastedown, and small early discreet gift inscription to top inner corner of front free endpaper. Contents otherwise very clean and unmarked. In the original binding of pale grey-green cloth, spine titled in gilt: sunned in places where the jacket is torn. In the protected unclipped Edward Bawden pictorial jacket: the front panel is clean and bright, with c.1-inch chips to the upper corners; and there is similar loss to the ends of the toned spine, and to the inner top corner of the publishers' list on the back panel. There are a number of old carefully-done repairs to its inner surface with an apparently benign adhesive tape, fixing a closed tear to the spine and reinforcing frayed edges. A good copy with 80% of the significant appeal of the classic Bawden dust jacket. VG in G dust-jacket.
