London: Macdonald, 1954. First edition. 676pp, illustrated with photographic plates, and drawings in the text. Contents strikingly fresh and clean. Faint tanning to endpapers. Small faint splash to top edge of closed text block. In the original binding of orange cloth, spine titled in gilt. Boards bright, spine faded and stained, with a small repair at the head. In the protected price-clipped pictorial dust jacket. Front panel clean, chipped to the bottom inner corner, back panel chipped to upper inner corner, absent spine stood in for by a photocopy (printed a little smaller than the original): the parts professionally brought together and made good. Contents, fine: binding, VG in good dust-jacket.
