Michael Young:

The Rise of the Meritocracy 1870-2033. An Essay on Education and Equality.

London: Thames and Hudson, 1958. First edition. 160pp. Contents clean and unmarked. Printed compliments slip of The Institute of Community Studies laid in, with 'Dr Michael Young' added in ink - by a secretary, or himself? In the original binding of red cloth, clean and firm, corners sharp, with the publishers' decoration to the front and title to the spine in gilt, tarnished near the head of the spine: spine ends slightly blunted. In the protected, unclipped, but chipped, pictorial dust jacket: front panel illustration complete and bright, but big chip to top edge, losing title. Spine nearly complete, with red area sunned: more chips to edges of back panel. Very nice copy in torn jacket, plus the slip. Very Good+ in fair dust-jacket.
