London: Longmans, 1965. First edition. Hardcover. xiv, 442pp, illustrated with photographs. This is a prepublication copy with the publisher's job label on the front pastedown, giving the specification for the binding, and each of the plates has been checked with a biro slash or cross. Text clean and unmarked. Faint soiling to closed edges of text block. Firm, in the binding of black cloth with gilt spine title on a cerulean lettering-piece, bright. 'File Copy' blindstamped to lower corner of front board. Small scuffs to corners, foot of spine blunted. In the protected unclipped blue dust jacket. This is severely creased and scuffed to the bottom edge, and somewhat to the head of the spine, with further creasing to the back panel. There is negligible loss, and the portrait of Allen on the front is still good. The publisher's job number '1923' is written on the spine. A viable copy of a scarce title. Another of Britain's mistreated heroes. VG / poor. Item #19656100
