Front free endpaper bears early naval ownership name in brown ink, and more recent pencilled name. Edges sprinkled. Firm, in contemporary half calf with red label and marbled boards, showing light wear. A bright, firm, attractive volume. Very Good+.

Navy List. 1835 (month unknown) [BOUND WITH] 1836 (corrected to June 1836).

London: John Murray, 1835, 1836. Original printings. 167, 168pp. 1835 lacks the title/contents page. Contents in very good order, and the 1836 list is unmarked. However, the first owner of 1835 has added some names to p.3, and small neat ink markings ('C' or 'D' - for commisioned or deceased?) beside some of the names in the ensuing pages. Later pencilled ownership to front pastedown. 16.5x10.5cms, in contemporary half black leather with marbled boards, spine ruled and titled in gilt. Binding tidy and firm, professionally refurbished, marbling rubbed on the front, and worn through to the board on the back. Very nice copy. Very Good.

A few ink asterisks and small pencil markings up to p.20, contents otherwise fresh and clean. Verso of front free endpaper bears ownership name of Admiral Sir Peter Halkett, serving in the West Indies at the time. Edges sprinkled. Firm, in contemporary half calf with black label and marbled boards: bottom corner of upper board severely knocked, spine chipped, upper joint split, but boards firm. Good copy. Good.

The Navy List: July 1937 (corrected to 18th June 1937).

London His Majesty's Stationery Office / HMSO / H.M.S.O., 1937. xvi, 789, 28pp, interspersed with supplementary numberings. Contents clean and fresh, with small pencil marks beside some names in the list of Lieutenant-Commanders. Front free endpaper bears a printed bookplate stating it to be one of a set of Navy Lists belonging to Admiral Sir Percy Noble which were presented to HMS Ceres by Commander Alan Noble in 1955. In the original binding of blue cloth, spine titled in gilt: firm, spine faded, minor marks, slight fraying to extremities. Nice copy. Very Good.
