Library stamps to backs of title pages (slightly bleeding to fronts), and occasional 19thC pale mauve stamps to corners. Contents bright and good, with occasional minor spotting or soiling to edges and a tide stain to corner of frontis and some prelims. Plates crisp, all edges marbled. In new bindings of red Victorian cloth with the original gilt on black labels laid down. A very attractive set. Contents VG, bindings Fine.

London: Westley and Parrish, 1824. [ii], 414pp, illustrated with many diagrams, and including index. Wonderfully various and buzzing with discoveries and inventions. Contents clean, although with a considerable amount of offsetting. 1952 ownership name on ffep. Small nick to bottom edges c.p230-p280, where something had been pressed into edge of text block. Tall quarto, 8.5 x 5.25 ins, in contemporary half calf with marbled boards: boards slightly scuffed, spine ruled gilt and with a red label, joints restored with Japanese tissue. Rare: a very nice firm copy. Very Good+.

London: Methuen, 1922. First edition. vi, 123, [1], 8 adverts. With 4 diagrams in the text. No ownership marks. Text clean and firm. Light foxing to the publishers' advertisements, faint browning to the endpapers, and a small foxing spot penetrating the front endpaper. In the original binding of russet cloth, front ruled and titled in blind, spine titled in gilt. Firm and clean, spine ends puckered: but the upper parts of front, spine and back have lost some colour to former damp. In the protected pale blue dust jacket. This has small nicks to the joint ends, and shallow chips to the spine ends, with a little loss to the corners and the top edge. The spine is dulled and soiled, the panels are clean, and the flaps are bright. Very scarce in jacket. Very Good- in VG dust-jacket.

Spine browned, front and back panels clean, flaps bright: internal tissue repairs to spine. A very good copy of an uncommon 1940s edition, with the rare jacket. Very Good in VG dust-jacket.
