Sheffield: James Dixon & Sons, n.d. [1908, 1911, 1914, 1919] Original edition. xx, 498pp, incorporating Supplements of New Goods dated 1911 and 1914, with some hiccups in the pagination. The main catalogue appears to be 1908; while 'September 1919' is printed at the foot of p.400. With wondrous thousands of illustrations of wares (some in colour), and a few photographs of workers and factory. Contents bright and in very good condition. Title page has some creasing, p345-6 has a picture cut out, and p389/90 has had some damage. A tab has been attached to the edge of p[441]. Quarto, firm, in the original gilt-embossed brown boards, at some time rebacked with a spine of brown buckram titled in gilt. An almost entirely pre-first world war edition, with Victorian design still very much in evidence. A very good copy. Very Good.

Syd Carter was well-known from the 1940s for his broadcasts and lectures on farming and other topics, and was held in affection and esteem by many. This book was published the year before his death. Pages clean, slight library marks to endpaper and number to spine: small ink mark on p.19. Half-title gutter has a narrow split, stained from former sellotape. In the original binding of green cloth, boards firm and fairly bright, spine dulled: all extremities fraying a little. Very scarce title. A good serviceable copy. G.
